US HDG imports up 1.1 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip totaled 168,088 mt in September 2023, up 1.1 percent from August and up 1.6 percent from September 2022 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $209.1 million in September 2023, compared to $216.7 million in August and $238.9 million in September 2022.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in September, with 72,283 mt, compared to 83,196 mt in August and 73,178 mt in September 2022. Other top sources of imported HDG in September include South Korea, with 23,221 mt; Brazil, with 20,895 mt; Mexico, with 18,566 mt; and UAE, with 10,978 mt.
