According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 135,233 mt in May 2023, up 23.9 percent from April and up 18.1 percent from May 2022. By value, HDG exports totaled $188.7 million in May, compared to $147.9 million in the previous month and $161.1 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most HDG to Canada in May with 71,311 mt, compared to 59,674 mt in April and 59,315 mt in May 2022. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 48,864 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US HDG exports in May.
