On March 9, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) announced its preliminary results of antidumping (AD) duty administrative review against certain HR flat rolled carbon quality steel products from Japan, which was initiated on July 30, 2008.
In the administrative review, which the US Steel Corporation, the sole petitioner, requested administrative reviews of JFE Steel Corporation (JFE), Nippon Steel Corporation (Nippon), and Kobe Steel, Ltd. (Kobe) for the period June 1, 2007 through May 31, 2008, the DOC preliminarily determined that adverse facts available should be applied to JFE, Nippon, and Kobe for not cooperating with the DOC.
Accordingly, for the period of review, the DOC preliminarily determined the antidumping duty margin to be 40.26 percent for JFE, Nippon, and Kobe. If the preliminary results are adopted in its final results of this review, the DOC will instruct the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to assess antidumping duties on all appropriate entries.
