The US Census Bureau of the US Department of Commerce announced Thursday that construction spending in July was approximately $789.5 million, 1.3 percent below June spending of $799.8 million. July spending is also up 0.1 percent from July 2010.
During the first seven months of this year, construction spending amounted to $435.5 billion, 3.5 percent below the $451.2 billion for the same period in 2010.
Private construction spending was $514.5 million in July--down 0.9 percent from June and residential construction fell 1.4 percent while residential construction slumped 0.4 percent.
Public construction spending fell as well, and was $275 million, or 2.1 percent lower than spending in June.
