US beam exports up 24.5 percent in December, down 16.1 percent for full-year 2016

US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 30,965 mt in December, up 24.5 percent from November but down 2.2 percent from December 2015 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $27.5 million in December, compared to $22.9 million in the previous month and $28.2 million the same month last year.
 
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in December, with 24,692 mt, compared to 20,028 mt in November and 20,771 mt in December 2015. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 4,351 mt. No other destinations with significant tonnage (over 1,000 mt) were recorded for the month.
 
As for the full year 2016, US beam exports totaled 428,450 mt, a 16.1 percent decrease from 2015. By value, beam exports totaled $376.5 million in 2016, down 16.8 percent from 2015.
