US beam exports drop 5.7 percent in May

US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 29,898 mt in May, down 5.7 percent from April and down 35.8 percent from May 2016 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $26.6 million in May, compared to $29.5 million in the previous month and $39.1 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in May with 23,877 mt, compared to 24,748 mt in April and 33,921 mt in May 2016. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 4,806 mt. No other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) of US export beams were recorded in May.
