US and Canadian rig counts both decline week-on-week

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending Oct. 6, 2023, the US rotary rig count dropped by four to 619.

The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by two to 118, while the number of rigs drilling for oil decreased by five to 497. The overall US rig count is down by 143 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 11 to 180 rigs in the week ending Oct. 6. The Canadian rig count is down by 35 rigs compared to the same reporting period last year.
