The Omaha, Nebraska-based Union Pacific Railroad announced Tuesday that a new bill signed into law will pave the way for Union Pacific to begin construction of a new rail facility near Santa Teresa, New Mexico in June 2011.

The facility will be located near the Santa Teresa Airport and will include fueling facilities, crew change buildings, an intermodal yard and an intermodal ramp with an annual lift capacity of up to 250,000 intermodal containers.

The construction phase of the project will be between 2011 and 2015 and is expected to have an overall economic impact for New Mexico exceeding $500 million.
