According to the data issued by metal trading enterprise Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company, in January-September this year Ukraine's steel market contracted by 41.1 percent year on year to about 4.165 million mt.
During the period in question, the share of imports in the domestic market decreased from 20 to 12 percent year on year, amounting to 527,900 mt of steel products.

Just as in the corresponding period of the previous year, in January-September this year the biggest share in Ukrainian domestic rolled steel product consumption was held by hot rolled coil, with more than a third of the total volume at 34.17 percent, followed by rebar and wire rod, with 8.95 percent and 8.52 percent respectively.
In January-September 2009, Ukraine's main consumer of steel remained the pipe sector, which increased its share of overall consumption in the domestic steel market from 24.7 percent to 27.3 percent, while the local metal trade sector, which occupied first place in January-September 2008, saw its share decrease from 34.5 percent to 25.4 percent.
