Ukrainian crude steel output expected to rise in May

According to Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, in May this year Ukraine's crude steel production will reach 2.97 million mt, up 2.2 percent compared to March.
According to Metallurgprom's forecast, pig iron output in Ukraine will total 2.54 million mt in May, up 2.7 percent, while production of rolled steel in the given month is expected to reach 2.6 million mt, up 3.1 percent, both compared to March.

In the first three months of the current year, Ukraine registered a 12 percent decrease in its finished steel product output to 7.259 million mt, a five percent decrease in its crude steel output to 8.190 million mt, but a 100 percent rise in its pig iron production to 7.120 million mt, all compared to the same period of the previous year.

In March alone, Ukraine produced 2.907 million mt of crude steel - up 18 percent, 2.473 million mt of pig iron - up 13.8 percent, and 2.521 million mt of rolled steel - up 14.6 percent, all on month-on-month basis.

In April, Ukrainian companies plan to produce 2.880 million mt of crude steel, 2,460 million mt of pig iron and 2,580 million mt of rolled steel.
