The Ukrainian steel producer Enakievsk MZ (EMZ), a subsidiary of Metinvest Holding, has announced that it has mastered the production of five new steel grades, using innovative technology.

Accordingly, EMZ has developed a comprehensive steelmaking and deoxidization program, which allows it to expand its range of finished steel products, such as rebar and round steel bars with diameters of 5.5-12 mm, which are used in the construction industry.

The new technology is implemented according to the pattern converter-ladle furnace - concaster and is used to cast billets at EMZ's continuous casting machine No. 1.

Moreover, within the chain converter-ladle furnace, EMZ has implemented a new development for low carbon steel of SAE 1006-1010 grades, which replaces traditionally-used aluminum with ferro-calcium for the deoxidization of low-silicon steel. In addition, EMZ has also achieved the optimum ratio of manganese and silicon in the chemical composition of steel, to be used for low alloy 25G2 and 35G steel grades. The new solutions enable EMZ to cast billets with an open jet, allowing it to reduce production costs without damaging the quality of the products.

Currently, EMZ produces 25 steel grades.
