The Ukrainian Scrap Processing Enterprises Union (USPPM) estimates that the country's scrap collection volume will reach 7.5-7.6 million metric tons for 2006, 6.8 million metric tons of which will be supplied to the domestic steel mills and the rest of which will be exported. According to these figures, domestic deliveries of scrap in 2006 are expected to rise by seven percent year on year, while export deliveries will be reduced by 56 percent during the same period of time. In addition, according to the latest data received from a reliable Ukrainian steel industry source, during the January-November 2006 period Ukrainian scrap exports decreased by 42 percent year on year to 689,500 metric tons. In November alone, Ukraine exported 54,508 metric tons of scrap, according to the same source.
