According to the preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, in January-April 2010 Ukraine registered an 18 percent increase year on year in its finished steel product output to 9.839 million mt and a 20.9 percent rise in its crude steel output to 11.038 million mt.
In the first four months of 2010, Ukraine saw a 20.4 percent increase in its pig iron production to 9.446 million mt and a 14.9 percent growth in its coke output to 6.23 million mt, both compared to the same period last year. In addition, in January-April this year the country's production of steel pipes went up by 10.2 percent year on year to 496,400 mt, while its output of hardware increased by 38.9 percent year on year to 86,800 mt.
In its iron ore segment, in the first four months of this year, Ukraine produced 25.043 million mt of iron ore and 20.744 million mt of iron ore concentrate - up 34.6 percent and 36.3 percent respectively compared to the same period last year. In addition, during the period in question the country's agglomerate production amounted to 13.557 million mt - up 24.4 percent, while its pellet production totaled 7.336 million mt - up 25.9 percent, both compared to the data for January-April 2009.
