According to the Association of Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers (UkrFA), in January-May 2010 Ukraine increased its ferroalloys production by almost 1.6 times compared to the same period last year to 655,000 mt.
Accordingly, during the first five months of 2010, Ukraine's silicomanganese output increased by 150 percent to 442,100 mt, its ferromanganese production went up by 309 percent to 119,400 mt, its ferrosilicon output increased by 116 percent to 87,500 mt, while its metallic manganese production went up by 300 percent to 6,000 mt, all compared to the same period of 2009.
Specifically, in January-May this year the largest Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant increased its ferroalloy output by 155 percent year on year to 401,500 mt, including 311,200 mt of silicomanganese and 90,300 mt of ferromanganese.
Meanwhile, during the period in question, Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Zaporozhye Ferro Alloys Plant increased its ferroalloy output by 178 percent year on year to 153,700 mt, including 94,700 mt of silicomanganese, 23,900 mt of ferrosilicon, 29,100 mt of ferromanganese and 6,000 mt of metallic manganese.
In addition, another major Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant increased its January-May ferroalloy output by 159 percent year on year to 99,800 mt, including 63,600 mt of ferrosilicon and 36,200 mt of silicomanganese.
Meanwhile, in June, the Ukrainian ferroalloys producers plan to cut their output, due to the reduction of orders both from domestic and foreign customers, caused by the decrease in steel production rates. Thus, compared to May, Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant plans to decrease its June output by 14.6 percent, Zaporozhye Ferro Alloys Plant expects to reduce its output by 20.7 percent, while Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant plans to cut its output by 7.6 percent.
