According to the preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, in the first half of the current year Ukraine registered a 16.6 percent increase year on year in its finished steel product output to 14.53 million mt and an 18 percent rise in its crude steel output to 16.34 million mt.
In the first six months of 2010, Ukraine saw a 15.7 percent increase in its pig iron production to 13.858 million mt and a 12 percent growth in its coke output to 9.281 million mt, both compared to the same period last year. In addition, in January-June this year the country's production of steel pipes went up by 5.5 percent year on year to 774,700 mt, while its output of hardware increased by 30.2 percent year on year to 131,100 mt.
In its iron ore segment, in H1 this year Ukraine mined 38.318 million mt of iron ore - up 35.6 percent year on year. Its iron ore concentrate production increased by 34.6 percent to 31.733 million mt, its agglomerate production went up by 20 percent to 19.934 million mt, while its pellet production rose by 24.3 percent to 11.165 million mt, all compared to the data for January-June 2009.
