UK construction industry output up 2.8 percent in 2011

Construction industry output of the UK in the fourth quarter of 2011 fell slightly by 0.5 percent compared to the third quarter and was up by 0.9 percent year on year, according to a report released by the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS). In the whole of 2011, the total volume of construction output grew by 2.8 percent compared to 2010.

New house building in particular fell by 0.6 percent in the fourth quarter last year compared to the previous quarter and was up 1.4 percent year on year, while repair and maintenance work fell by 0.5 percent quarter on quarter but grew by 0.9 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2010.

In the whole of 2011, the highest growth in the UK construction industry was recorded in the field of new infrastructure with 13.2 percent, private industrial new work showed the largest fall of 8.7 percent, while public housing repair and maintenance showed a decline of 4.4 percent, all compared to 2010.
