Two explosions rock US Steel mill near Pittsburgh

Local media reported that two explosions and a fire erupted Monday evening at US Steel’s Edgar Thomson mill in Braddock, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.

No injuries were reported and authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.

US Steel did not indicate whether production was affected by the incident. Company spokeswoman Sarah Cassella released the following statement to media:

“At approximately 7:30 p.m., an incident occurred in the steel making area of the Edgar Thomson Plant. Everyone in the area was able to safely evacuate and has been accounted for. We have begun an investigation to determine the root cause. No further details are available at this time.”
