Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association to meet with US policymakers

Leaders of the Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association (CIB), a business association of producers and exporters in the Turkish steel industry, today announced their plans to meet from September 28 – October 2 with Washington, D.C., policymakers, industry experts and government leaders to discuss US-Turkey steel trade relations and advocate for fair international trade.

The association plans to meet with representatives from the US Department of Commerce, Office of the US Trade Representative, the US Senate Committee on Finance, and others.

“This US visit could not come at a more important time, as recent antidumping and countervailing duty filings by US steel producers underscore the need for improved global steel trade relations,” said CIB President Namik Ekinci. “It is our hope that from these meetings, steps will be made towards settling intensifying trade disputes and curbing unproductive litigation. As a longtime ally of the US and with a proposed U.S-EU trade agreement up for discussion, CIB is looking forward to meeting with policymakers and sees this as an opportunity to facilitate positive conversation and change.”

This historic trip comes on the heels of a recent announcement by the CIB, urging the Turkish Ministry of Economy (MoE) to appeal the OCTG countervailing duty (CVD) ruling before the World Trade Organization (WTO).  Since this announcement, the CIB has seen even more unmerited filings from the US – the most recent being an AD/CVD investigation against hot rolled coil imports. The CIB has denied these claims and will use this trip to continue voicing their complaints and to ensure the fair conduct of global trade.
