In May this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales totaled 85,154 units, rising by 38 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey's passenger car sales totaled 62,878 units, up 36 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 364,960 units, up 51 percent on year-on-year basis.
In the January-May period, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 393,656 units, up seven percent, while passenger car exports increased by one percent to 247,301 units, both year on year.
In the same period, the country exported 124,140 small trucks, up 12 percent year on year. In the period in question, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports decreased by 12 percent to $8.69 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $2.86 billion, decreasing by 11 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In May of the current year, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 58,535 units, while passenger car imports totaled 50,385 units, rising by 40 percent and 45 percent year on year, respectively. In the first five months of this year, the country's total motor vehicle imports totaled 234,035, up 44 percent, while passenger car imports reached 193,372 units, rising by 44 percent, both compared to the same period of 2014.
