Turkish wire rod exports down 44.6 percent in May

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's total wire rod exports amounted to 64,523 metric tons, falling 12.3 percent month on month and down 44.6 percent compared to May 2012, declining to its lowest level recorded since January 2011. In April, the average price of Turkey's wire rod exports stood at $606/mt, falling $15/mt month on month and down compared to the average of $667/mt recorded in the same month of 2012.

Turkey's wire export volumes to Libya, which were at high monthly levels of around 15,000 mt in the November 2012-January 2013 period, regained their high levels in May with 18,387 mt, after a sharp fall in February to 1,453 mt. On the other hand, Turkey's overall wire rod exports to the Middle East region totaled just 14,515 mt in May, having generally remained under 20,000 mt since December 2012, except in March this year. Meanwhile, Turkey's wire rod exports to Singapore had hit a historical record in January this year with 41,222 mt, while there is no record of Turkish wire rod exports to Singapore in subsequent months of the current year.
