Turkish motor vehicle output up 23 percent in May

In May this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 154,758 units, rising by 23 percent year on year and up 3.8 percent month on month, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the January-May period of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 727,997 units, up 22 percent year on year.
 
In May alone, passenger car output amounted to 104,653 units, increasing by 37 percent, while commercial vehicle output totaled 50,105 units, up three percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the first five months of this year, passenger car output totaled 506,747 units, up 41 percent, and commercial vehicle production amounted to 221,250 units, down six percent, both compared to the same period of 2016.
 
The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry was 96 percent in May this year, while the rate was 90 percent in the January-May period of the year.
