Turkish crude steel output to rise by 10 percent in 2012

According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (DCUD), in 2011 Turkey's crude steel production rose by 17 percent year on year reaching 34.1 million mt. In 2011, of the total crude steel production in Turkey, steel production using electric arc furnaces (EAF) amounted to 25.3 million mt, with an increase of 20.9 percent, while  while production via blast furnaces rose by 7.2 percent to 8.83 million mt, both compared to 2010.
 
In December 2011, Turkey's crude steel output increased by 11.5 percent year on year to 3.1 million mt, recording its highest monthly production volume in 2011.
 
In 2011, Turkey's crude steel production rose at more than twice the average global growth rate. Due to the increases in capacity utilization and product range, Turkish crude steel production is expected to rise further and reach 37.5 million mt in 2012, increasing by 10 percent compared to 2011.
