Turkish construction sector confidence rises again in Feb

According to the monthly sectoral confidence survey released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the confidence index* for the construction sector in Turkey, which stood at 80.6 points in January this year, increased by 6.1 percent month on month in February, rising to 85.5 points. The confidence index for the Turkish construction sector had showed a rise of 12.2 percent in January compared to December, after eight consecutive month-on-month declines.

According to the indices based on individual questions asked of Turkish construction sector enterprise executives who own private businesses with 10 or more employees, in February this year the confidence index for construction activities recorded in the latest three months, which stood at 82 points in January, decreased by 2.5 percent to 79.9 points.

The executives' answers show that the index for written orders received in the Turkish construction sector in February decreased by 3.1 percent month on month to 66.3 points, despite the two consecutive months of upward movement in the general confidence index. Executives' expectations for sales prices in the next three months increased 10.9 percent month on month to 110.1 points, rising to the optimistic outlook zone.

Meanwhile, players in the sector indicate difficulties due to winter weather conditions and insufficient demand, according to the research results.

* Sectoral confidence index values range between zero and 200. When the index is above 100 it indicates an optimistic outlook about the current and the future period of the sector, when it is below 100 it points to a pessimistic outlook.
