In June this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 974,707 metric tons, rising 49.13 percent year on year and up 139 percent compared to the previous month, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports amounted to $73.2 million, down 16.4 percent year on year and rising by 112.6 percent compared to May.
In the January- June period, Turkey imported 4.93 million mt of iron ore, up 22.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while the value of these imports decreased by 21.5 percent year on year to $441.6 million.
In the January- June period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 1.2 million mt, up 62.12 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 989,563 metric tons, up 0.12 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 664,487 metric tons, up 11.23 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
