In the first 10 months of the current year, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 7.2 percent to 11.2 million mt, while the value of these imports fell 5.9 percent to $9.86 billion, both on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the given period, Turkey's billet and bloom imports totaled 2.43 million mt, down 0.1 percent, its slab imports decreased by 25.7 percent to 1.3 million mt, while its flat steel imports totaled 5.54 million mt, down 7.6 percent, long steel imports amounted to 1.22 million mt, up 3.3 percent, and steel pipe imports decreased by 4.4 percent to 357,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
On the other hand, in October alone, Turkey's steel imports increased by 13.9 percent year on year to 1.15 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $979 million, up 6.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given month, Turkey's billet and bloom imports increased by 22 percent to 172,000 mt, while its slab imports rose by 61.7 percent to 227,000 mt, both year on year. Also in October this year, Turkey's flat steel imports increased by 2.6 percent to 575,000 mt, its long steel imports moved up by 6.9 percent to 109,000 mt, and steel pipe imports totaled 33,000 mt, up 12.8 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
