Turkey’s steel imports down 12.6 percent in Jan-Feb

In February of the current year, Turkey's steel imports declined by 21.2 percent to 958,000 mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 13 percent to $877 million, both on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD).
 
In February this year, Turkey's semi-finished steel imports decreased by 42.5 percent year on year, while billet imports fell 48.1 percent to 186,000 mt, slab imports decreased by 30.3 percent to 114,000 mt, flat steel imports declined by 9.9 percent to 482,000 mt and long steel imports increased by 19.4 percent to 115,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
 
Meanwhile, in the first two months of the current year, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 12.6 percent to 2.08 million mt, while the value of these imports fell 7.3 percent to $1.85 billion, both on year-on-year basis. In the given period, Turkey's finished steel imports decreased by 26.1 percent to 673,000 mt, billet imports totaled 455,000 mt, down 20 percent, and slab imports decreased by 36.3 percent to 218,000 mt, while long steel imports totaled 238,000 mt, up 8.9 percent, and flat steel imports amounted to 1.03 million mt, down 7.5 percent, all on year-on-year basis. 
 
In the January-February period this year, Turkey's steel trade surplus ratio increased by nine percentage points year on year to 141 percent.
