Turkey’s steel import volume down 23.6 percent in January-February

In February this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 39.7 percent to 1.12 million mt, year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). 
 
In the given month, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 61.2 percent to 322,800 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports fell by 20 percent to 617,500 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In February, the long steel product imports of the country were down by 30 percent to 107,000 mt, year on year.  
 
In February, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 131 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 86 percent in the same month of 2016.
 
 In the January-February period this year, Turkey's steel imports continued their declining trend. In the given period, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 23.6 percent to 2.55 million mt, year on year. 
 
In the first two months, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 32.1 percent to 875,800 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports decreased by 17.4 percent to 1.29 million mt, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
In the January-February period this year, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 118.5 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 83 percent in the same period of 2016.
