Turkey’s steel exports to EU up 43 percent in 2011

Turkey's steel product exports to the European Union in 2011 rose by 42.9 percent compared to 2010 to 3.36 million metric tons, according to the data provided by Turkey's Steel Exporters' Association (CIB).

The region was one of Turkey's major export markets in 2011, accounting for 18.5 percent of its total steel product exports. In 2010, this share was recorded at 13.5 percent. Meanwhile, the total revenue generated by Turkey's steel product exports to the EU-27 came to $3.43 billion, rising by 57.2 percent year on year.
 
In 2011, Turkey's steel product exports to Italy amounted to 1.2 million metric tons, up 126.4 percent compared to 2010, followed by Romania with 364,137 metric tons, increasing by 13.5 percent year on year. In 2011, Turkey's leading exported steel product to the EU-27 was hot rolled flat steel, with a volume of 1.23 million metric tons, up 115.6 percent year on year.
