Turkey's steel billet imports almost stable in January-August

In August this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume decreased by 19.92 percent year on year to 165,040 metric tons, and declined by 29.43 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $90.71 million, down 18.08 percent year on year and decreasing by 27.97 percent compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year Turkey imported 1.98 million mt of billet and bloom, almost stable, with a value of $1.07 billion, decreasing by 3.14 percent, both year on year.

In the first eight months, Turkey imported 1.1 million mt of billet and bloom from Ukraine, 3.56 percent higher year on year, with Ukraine ranking first among Turkey's main billet and bloom import sources, ahead of Russia which supplied 623,967 mt in the given period, up 5.44 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in August this year Ukraine was the leading source for Turkey's billet and bloom imports, supplying 81,178 mt, down 2.3 percent year on year.
