Turkey's stainless flat steel imports ex-S. Korea up 95.3% in Jan-May

In May this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 1.73 percent year on year, but decreased by 4.55 percent compared to the previous month to 49,556 metric tons, following the 44.27 percent month-on-month increase recorded in April, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports in May was $108.25 million, decreasing by 7.56 percent year on year and by 3.54 percent compared to April.

Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 213,511 metric tons, increasing by 16.08 percent, with a value of $463.99 million, up 2.53 percent, both year on year.

In the first five months this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan, which ranked as Turkey's top import source for the products in question in 2013, decreased by 42.26 percent year on year to 24,096 mt. In January-May this year, South Korea was Turkey's leading import source for stainless flat steel, supplying 57,196 metric tons, up 95.35 percent year on year. China followed South Korea, with its stainless flat steel exports to Turkey in the given period increasing by 146.77 percent year on year to 39,273 metric tons. Meanwhile, in the given period Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Italy increased by 187.7 percent year on year to 31,500 metric tons. In May alone, Turkey's biggest stainless flat steel source was China, which supplied 13,386 mt.
