Turkey’s scrap imports up 4.1 percent in January-April

In the January-April period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 4.1 percent to 5.53 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $1.08 billion, according to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
 
In the given period, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 15.7 percent to 3.26 million mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 3.8 percent to 1.13 million mt, with a value of $225 million, down by 34.2 percent , while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 897,000 mt, down 24.3 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 59 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 20.5 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 16.2 percent.
