In January this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 34 percent year on year to 1.52 million metric tons and was down 8.05 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $391.8 million, up 74.5 percent year on year and remaining unchanged compared to December.
In the given month, Turkey imported 303,120 mt of scrap from the US, up 25.41 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Netherlands which supplied 217,961 mt in the given period, up 19.37 percent year on year.
