According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in September this year Turkey's steel scrap imports rose by 27.9 percent over August, amounting to 1.9 million metric tons.
The data show that, in the given period, the average import price of Turkey's steel scrap stood at $468/mt, decreasing $3/mt or 0.6 percent compared to the previous month.
In September, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 736,947 mt, up 61.9 percent, while Russia followed the US with its scrap exports to Turkey amounting to 178,286 mt, up 13.8 percent, both compared to August. In the given month, Romania exported 172,583 mt of steel scrap to Turkey, down 5.65 percent, the UK exported 157,352 mt to Turkey, up 14.2 percent, both compared to August this year.
Meanwhile, in the first nine months of the year Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 15.65 million mt. In the January-September period, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 4.3 million mt, while Romania and Russia followed the US with 1.7 million mt and 1.6 million mt respectively.
