In November 2014, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 16.6 percent year on year to 1.53 million metric tons, but declined by 2.5 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $564.4 million, up 15.2 percent year on year and decreasing by 5.6 percent compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, in the first 11 months last year, Turkey imported 17.77 million mt of scrap, down 0.3 percent, with a value of $6.7 billion, down 1.08 percent, both year on year.
In the first 11 months, Turkey imported 3.73 million mt of scrap from the US, 23.2 percent lower year on year, with the US ranking first among Turkey's main scrap import sources, ahead of Russia which supplied 2.65 million mt in the given period, up 42.1 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in November 2014 US was the leading source for Turkey's scrap imports, supplying 478,632 mt, up 70 percent year on year.
