In the first half of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 1.6 percent to 9.33 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $2.54 billion with a 29 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the January-June period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 14.3 percent to 6.03 million mt, its scrap imports from the US fell by 21.3 percent to 1.5 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 938,000 mt, down 44 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 65 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 16 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 10 percent.
