Turkey’s pig iron imports decline in October

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in October Turkey's pig iron imports fell 31.3 percent compared to the previous month, continuing the fluctuating trend seen since May this year, and were down 11 percent compared to October 2011, totaling 78,345 metric tons.

In the first 10 months of 2012, Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 1.1 million metric tons, increasing 30 percent compared to January-October 2011.

Imports from Ukraine in the period in question amounted to 732,598 metric tons, up 97.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while imports from Russia, Turkey's second largest pig iron source, amounted to 342,234 mt in the first 10 months of the current year, down 7.2 percent, compared to the same period of 2011.
