According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in June this year Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 466,202 metric tons, falling by 51 percent compared to the previous month and down 47 percent compared to the same month of 2011.
Turkey's top iron ore source in June this year was Brazil which supplied 390,227 mt of iron ore to Turkey, compared to 502,873 mt recorded in the same month of 2011.
In the first half of this year, Turkey imported 3.48 million mt of iron ore, increasing 3.4 percent compared to the first half of the previous year. The average import price of iron ore in January-June was $157/mt, down $8/mt compared to the same period last year, according to the TUIK data.
In the period in question, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil constituted 60.75 percent of the country's total iron ore imports with 2.1 million mt.
