Turkey’s HRC exports more than double in H1

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the first six months of the current year Turkey's total hot rolled coil (HRC) exports amounted to 866,733 mt, more than double compared to the corresponding period of 2012. As can be seen in the chart below, Italy was the largest HRC export destination for Turkey in the first half of the current year.

In June this year, Turkey's total hot rolled coil (HRC) exports amounted to 105,047 metric tons, decreasing 21.1 percent compared to May, declining for the second consecutive month on month-on-month basis. However, in June Turkish HRC exports were more than triple compared to June 2012.

Regarding the country's hot rolled coil export on quarterly basis, in the second quarter of the current year the country's HRC exports rose to their highest level recorded since the second quarter of 2011, despite the month-on-month decreasing trend observed in the period in question.

Turkey's hot rolled coil exports to Italy fell 18.9 percent in the second quarter of the current year compared to the same quarter of the previous year, totaling 159,170 mt, and were double compared to the 78,990 mt recorded in the previous quarter. In the second quarter this year, the country's hot rolled coil exports to Portugal also saw a significant rise both year on year and over the previous quarter, amounting to 75,757 mt.

Meanwhile, in the first half of the current year Turkey's hot rolled plate exports totaled 45,414 mt, falling by 64.6 percent compared to the first half of 2012. Turkey's hot rolled sheet exports in the first half amounted to 58,988 mt, decreasing 7.7 percent on year-on-year basis.
