According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in June this year Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, fell by 10.8 percent compared to the previous month and were up 12.8 percent compared to June 2011, totaling 450,792 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $344.5 million, decreasing by 8.8 percent as compared to May this year and up 13.4 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first half of the current year Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 2.43 million metric tons, decreasing five percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first half of the current year, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 570,375 metric tons, increasing by 11.2 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in January-June this year was Russia with 415,739 metric tons, down 36.5 percent compared to the first half of 2011. Meanwhile, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from the EU amounted to 883,036 mt in the first half, rising by 11.8 percent year on year.
