Turkey’s exports hit record in December
Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen stated that
Turkey's exports hit all-time high in December with $7.3 billion. Exports indicated a year-on-year increase of 7.9 percent.
Data released by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) show that
Turkey's exports rose 14.7 percent year on year to $73.4 billion in 2005.
Imports are expected to reach $115 billion in 2005, said Minister Tuzmen.
Minister Tuzmen said that 2005 was not an easy year for exporters and the pace of export growth slowed down last year; however, this slowdown was largely due to the global economic conjuncture.
He also added that the contraction in the European Union's (15) imports, the decline in global steel demand and prices and the rescission of quotas in textile and ready-to-wear sectors contributed to the slowdown in the pace of export growth.
Tuzmen also said that
Turkey's export figure per capita exceeded $1,000 and this figure will reach $2,000-3,000 per capita in the coming years.
