Turkey's domestic scrap supply volume down 5.3 percent in Jan-Sept

According to the report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in the first nine months of this year Turkey's crude steel output increased by 0.3 percent to 25.72 million mt, while country's scrap consumption decreased by 1.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given period, scrap consumption by electric arc furnaces totaled 20.67 million mt, down 1.9 percent, and scrap usage by blast furnaces amounted to 912,000 mt, up six percent, both on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in the first nine months Turkey's scrap imports increased by 0.2 percent to 14.68 million mt, while these imports were valued at $5.55 billion, down 0.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the same period, Turkey's domestic scrap supply volume decreased by 5.3 percent year on year to 6.89 million mt.

In the same period, Turkey's scrap imports from European countries increased by 0.6 percent to 7.96 million mt, valued at $3.02 billion, up 0.3 percent; scrap imports from the US contracted by 26.6 percent to 2.98 million mt, valued at $1.15 billion, down 27.7 percent, and scrap imports from CIS countries increased by 68.9 percent to 2.88 million mt, valued at $1.07 billion, up 67.3 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
