According to the forecast of the Turkish Iron and Steel Association, in 2007 the country's crude steel production will increase by 10 percent year on year up to 25.5 million metric tons. An increase in the steel smelting capacities in Turkey is connected with the increase in demand for steel inside the country. For instance, in 2006 Turkey registered a 20 percent increase in steel consumption (15 percent and 10.4 percent increase for longs and flats respectively) compared to the data for 2005.
