Mexican steel pipe producer Tubacero announced this week that the company expects an extraordinary surge in demand of steel pipe as a result of the Energy Sector Plan of Nuevo Leon State and energy reform.

Teodoro González, chairman of Tubacero, said that the launch of the new Energy Sector Plan Nuevo León State will be very favorable for Tubacero.

"This new plan puts Nuevo Leon as a spearhead in energy which will increase demand for steel pipe for energy projects such as pipelines," he said in an interview Monday as part of the presentation of the Energy Sector Plan.

He noted that the expected increase in demand will be satisfied by new investments for which Tubacero is already prepared, as it will open a new plant in Monterrey with an investment of US$ 90 million. He also said that the company get a boost from the approval of permits for the National Water Commission (CNA) for the construction of the Aqueduct Monterrey VI.

"We will wait for the calls from authorities to participate in the tender for suppliers for new projects," he said.
