Toyota to increase US sales

The introduction of new models and the overall growth in the automotive industry will aid Toyota Motor Corp. in its quest to increase its US sales to 2.5 million vehicles by 2008, according to an announcement from the Japanese automaker. Through the first five months of 2005 Toyota saw its sales increase 10.2% year on year. The strong sales growth likely factored into the Japanese automaker's decision to raise its prices in the US by 3% this year; Toyota normally raises prices by 1-2% annually. The company also plans to establish more plants in North America in order to meet rising demand. Its assembly plant in Texas, due to open next year, will be the company's sixth in North America.
