Russian pipe giant TMK's Illinois, US-based subsidiary TMK IPSCO celebrated the opening of its new Brookfield, Ohio-based manufacturing plant on Friday, May 7, with a ceremony held at the new facility.

A company press release said that the facility, which has an annual capacity of 100,000 mt and 120 employees, is dedicated to threading pipe with TMK IPSCO's line of ULTRA Premium Connections to support TMK IPSCO's growing market share in the Marcellus Shale gas plays, where ULTRA has been one of the first manufacturers to make premium connection sales.

Piotr Galitzine, chairman of TMK IPSCO, noted that "unconventional gas, especially in shales such as the giant Marcellus, hold the promise of energy security for the US - our pipe and connections will help unlock that."

As SteelOrbis previously reported, TMK IPSCO announced on February 22 that it has signed a lease on a building in Brookfield, Ohio where it will install new equipment to further expand the threading capacity of its ULTRA Premium Connections product line, manufacturing both premium connections and American Petroleum Institute (API) connections.
