TISCO upgrades slab casters

According to recent market reports, Tata Iron & Steel Company (TISCO) is planning to upgrade three of its single strand slab casters in Jamshedpur, India. TISCO will convert the existing curved mould to a straight mould to renovate the first slab caster. With this renovation, the company can produce higher quality strip products. TISCO considers to upgrade the other two casters by increasing the casting speed and productivity. The renovation will be done by VAI UK, a subsidiary of Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) of Austria, at a cost of £4.5 million (around $7.5 million). After the renovation, TISCO will be able to produce high quality slab at a higher production rate.
