On April 21, Ohio,
US-based Timken Company, a global manufacturer of bearings, alloy steel, and power transmission components, said that it transformed 1.6 million mt of
scrap metal into steel in 2010, including 350,000 mt of recycled
scrap metal from Timken operations.
Timken also said that it has cut the amount of energy needed to produce steel ingots by 27 percent since 1990. Based on 2010 production alone, the electricity saved is enough to power 11 million homes for a day.
