The Thai government is about to impose a 26-32 percent antidumping duty on hot rolled coil (HRC) imports from India.
According to a letter circulated to the Indian steel industry by India's Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), the Indian firms which will face the antidumping duty in Thailand include Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Tata Steel, JSW Steel and Essar Steel.
The volume of steel imported into Thailand from India increased by 350 percent during the first five months of 2009. The Thai Committee on Dumping and Subsidy, which has cited this import surge as the reason behind the antidumping duty, has invited Indian companies to put forth their objections to the measure within a month.
The committee has recommended a maximum 31.92 percent antidumping duty on imports of HRC manufactured by Tata Steel and other companies. In the case of SAIL, JSW Steel and Essar Steel, the duty stands at 26.81 percent.
