Thai steel makers focus on new investments

According to recent news in the market, Thai steel makers are reportedly to focus on expansion due to strong demand from automotive and home appliance sectors. For instance, hot-rolled steel producer Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI) is planning to establish a new hot-rolled steel plant, which will have a production capacity of 1.6 million tons per annum. The new plant will focus on production of pickled and oiled steel products and 70% of the products will supply domestic users. The second mill, which also plans an expansion is Australia-based BlueScope Steel. The company's Thai unit is planning to establish a coating line, which will have a production capacity of 200'000 tons per annum. It is also reported that many other small steel plants in Thailand are planning to invest on new projects to meet rising demand.
