TEU and automotive traffic up at Georgia ports

The Georgia Ports Authority announced Wednesday that its ports had a strong month in March due to an increase in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU's) and automotive units.

The Port of Savannah handled 238,000 TEU's-up 4.5 percent over March 2010 and fiscal year-to-date volume for 2011 is already up 12.6 percent for TEU's over the same period last year.

The Port of Brunswick had its best month ever in March for automobile and machinery units at Colonel's Island Terminal with a total of 42,740 units. The number of units the Terminal handled in March was a 36 percent increase over March 2010.
